The 2021 Revolutionary Germantown Festival will continue its forty-plus year tradition of being a free event commemorating Germantown’s Revolutionary history. Visitors will be able to engage with the sites in Historic Germantown through family-friendly activities that highlight the diverse experiences of the men, women and children who lived in 1777 Germantown. The festival promises to be a day of fun and exploration!
There will be one re-enactment of the Battle of Germantown, from 12 PM to 1 PM during the festival. The re-enactment portrays a historic battle that displays some violent content including black powder demonstrations.
In accordance with City of Philadelphia mandates, visitors will be required to wear masks while on Cliveden’s grounds. Cliveden staff will continue monitoring the city and CDC guidelines as the festival draws closer.

Cliveden
A site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and a proud member of Historic Germantown, Cliveden opened to the public in 1972. Built in 1763-1767, Cliveden was home to seven generations of the Chew family and the men and women who worked for them, was the site of the Battle of Germantown in October 1777, and is an important example of Philadelphia Georgian architecture. Cliveden focuses on telling the multiple narratives of the property by interpreting the buildings and grounds; giving a voice to the men and women—black, white, free, enslaved, and indentured—who played a role in the Cliveden story.
